By Car

For those wishing to explore more independently, renting a car provides flexibility to enjoy the scenic drive and discover more of what Xcalak has to offer. From Cancún, Xcalak is approximately a 5 to 6-hour scenic drive along coastal highways and through charming towns. From Tulum, the drive shortens to approximately 4 hours. Renting a vehicle at Cancún International Airport (CUN) or Tulum provides the most flexibility. Ensure your vehicle has ample fuel and necessary supplies, as gas stations become sparse approaching Xcalak.

By Charter Flight

Guests seeking to minimize road travel may book charter flights through Vuelatour services—the most experienced and qualified charter company in the Yucatán. Flights land in Mahahual or Chetumal, followed by private ground transfers of approximately 1-2 hours.

Here’s what you need to know:

Cessna 206: Accommodates up to 4 passengers or a maximum of 900 pounds total weight.

Kodiak 100:Suitable for groups of 5-14 passengers or up to 2,000 pounds total weight.

If your group has fewer than 4 passengers, please contact us directly. We may be able to match you with other guests flying in the same week (Saturday to Saturday).

By Train (Tren Maya)

The recently completed Tren Maya offers an exciting new travel option, connecting major points throughout the Yucatán Peninsula. Travelers can comfortably journey from Cancún or Tulum to southern Quintana Roo, then arrange transfers for the final leg to Xcalak. Check official schedules to plan accordingly.

Important Travel Tips

Cash & Supplies: Bring ample cash (Mexican pesos) as ATMs are not available in Xcalak.

Offline Navigation: Download offline maps before departing, as cell reception and Wi-Fi connectivity are limited during the journey.

Arrival Coordination Inform us of your travel plans ahead of time to ensure smooth coordination and timely assistance.

Speed Bumps (Topes) Warning (for those driving independently): Keep an eye out for speed bumps, locally called "topes." They come up fast and can be tough to spot, especially if you're driving at highway speeds. Watch for signs showing two small mounds, slow down significantly as you approach, and pay attention to cars ahead of you braking—your suspension will thank you.
